The Warsaw meeting of V4 concerning the armaments cooperation

     Discussion of joint initiatives in the field of cooperation is the main objective of the meeting of national armaments directors of the Visegrad Group (V4), which took place on the 21st of October in Warsaw. Talks were chaired by the Secretary of State in the Polish Ministry of National Defence Czeslaw Mroczek.


 "Poland attaches a great importance to the work of the V4. Especially in the context of the ongoing process of professionalization of the armed forces we want to refere to a specific armaments cooperation, expressed not only in the declarations, but above all the implementation of joint initiatives "- said the Minister Mroczek. He also stressed how important it is to precisely define national needs in the context of works on specific projects. He also proposed the signing of a letter of intent concerning the start of the project of a universal modular vehicle. This project is the most promising in terms of its implementation, since the V4 countries are looking for a replacement for worn soviet-era BMP-1 and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.

  The representatives of the Visegrad Group also met with the head of the European Defence Agency (EDA) Claude-France Arnould. The discussions concerned the issues related to the work of the EDA and the European Commission in the field of defence industries and markets, the choice of the management of EDA and the review the decision of the EU Council on the establishment of the EDA. The issues important to the region V4 were also raised. Poland has expressed its interest in an international project to safeguard the ability of armed forces for airborne refueling, strategic airlift and medical evacuation missions carried out by the MRTT fleet.

 The meetings were also attended by the Polish Director of the Armaments Policy Department general Wlodzimierz Nowak. The other countries of V4 were represented in Warsaw by the Deputy Minister of Defence for the Czech Republic Bohuslav Dvorak, the director of the Department of Armaments and Control Resources, the deputy of the national director for armament Hungary general Jstvan Filotas and the advisor of the national director for armaments of Slovakia Milan Celko.
